Because of my job I get out to San Francisco fairly often, but until very recently my trips were so truncated (and I so timid) that I basically never, ever got out of this sad little commute bookended by my office in SoMa and some hotel in Union Square. Last year though, my friend Weston and I went out for ALT Summit (our company was sponsoring) and it sort of forced me to get to know the Muni and got me out of my rut and into parts of the city I’d never been. The trips to San Francisco since have become my favorite jogs out of town.
Last time I was out there, I stayed at my usual place (Hotel Tomo in Japantown, 10/10 would bang — so quiet, so clean, so affordable) but managed to pack in a bunch before and after each workday. The highlight of my trip, though, was finally getting to hangout with Edward, Jordan, and Ryan; tumblrs and instagrammers I’ve been following for a while. Ryan actually used to live in Utah, and though we have several mutual friends both in Utah & the Bay, we’d never actually met in real life. Until know! What fun. I also got around to The Mill, took home a boatload of books from Needles and Pens, and just sort of did my ritual despondent drift through Maas & Stacks.
